Demantoid

Demantoid is an emerald-green variant of calc-iron garnet with traces of chromium, with semi-adamantine luster and high dispersion (0.057), mainly from the contact metamorphic zone of ultramafic rocks. The color ranges from light green, yellowish green to emerald green. Demantoid have a very high refractive index, a higher color exposure than diamonds, superb luster, exceptionally rich fire, and generally small foot particles. Gemstones over 2 carats are rare.

[Origin]

Produced in the Ural Mountains of Russia, the best quality Demantoid, Demantoid is also the most important origin, usually combined with a radial, commonly known as "horsetail" asbestos fiber inclusions, very unique. Other sources include Italy, Germany, Namibia and Kenya.

[Color]

Demantoid come in several colors. It is usually yellowish green or emerald green due to the presence of chromium, but it can also be yellow, yellowish brown, brown, or tan.

[Fire color].

Demantoid has a very high refractive index and ultra-high dispersion (0.057), which even exceeds the diamond's dispersion value of 0.044! Therefore, good quality Demantoid can emit "fire color" that is even more sparkling than diamonds!

[Inclusions]

Demantoid contains inclusions of stone fibers (ponytail filaments), and a complete "ponytail filament" inclusions is like a beautiful firework in bloom. In the marketplace, "ponytail filament" inclusions are a typical identification feature of Demantoid.

Most Demantoid are less than 1 carat, quality Demantoid up to 2 carats are rare, and 5 carat quality Demantoid are world class. The price of a quality Demantoid can be comparable to that of an Emerald.
